Handyman Rates on the Gold Coast: What Should You Expect to Pay in 2026?

Handyman completing quality timber repair work on a Gold Coast home

Handyman pricing on the Gold Coast is confusing by design — some charge by the hour, some by the job, some add call-out fees and some hide them. Here's a general guide to help you compare quotes properly.

A quick note: the figures below are indicative market observations for the Gold Coast at the time of writing — general information only, not quotes, and not the prices of any particular business (including ours). Every job is different, which is why we price each one individually with a written, itemised quote.

Typical Gold Coast handyman rates in 2026

  • Hourly rates: as a general market guide, hourly rates commonly sit around $70–$110 per hour, often with a minimum charge of 1–2 hours.
  • Call-out fees: some operators add $50–$90 on top of the hourly rate; others build it into a minimum charge. Always ask.
  • Half-day / full-day rates: for a list of jobs, expect roughly $350–$500 for a half day and $600–$950 for a full day, depending on the work and materials.

When you're comparing quotes, compare like for like: check that the business is insured, has an ABN, and stands behind its work with a warranty — the rate on its own only tells part of the story.

Indicative pricing for common jobs

  • Ceiling or plaster repair (patch and finish): $250–$700 depending on size and access
  • Shower regrouting and reseal: $400–$900
  • Door adjustments, locks and hardware: $120–$350
  • Shower screen replacement: $600–$1,400 including the screen
  • Deck re-oil (standard family deck): $500–$1,200 depending on size and condition

Structural work, waterproofing and anything involving plumbing or electrical is a different category — those need licensed trades, and we coordinate our licensed partners for exactly that reason.

Why we quote by the job, not the hour

An hourly rate rewards slow work. A fixed, itemised quote rewards efficient, quality work — you know the price before we start, and the risk of a job running long sits with us, not you. For anything beyond a quick fix, insist on a written quote.

How to make handyman work cheaper (the honest way)

  • Bundle jobs. The most expensive part of a small job is getting a tradesman to your door. Five small jobs in one visit costs far less than five separate call-outs.
  • Don't wait. A $300 repair ignored for two years has a habit of becoming a $3,000 one — especially anywhere near water or salt air. Our coastal maintenance checklist covers the big ones.
  • Check insurance and reviews. Confirming credentials up front is the simplest way to avoid expensive problems later.
